Seeds
These drawings, from the Seeds series, are made from arrangements of the seeds of the American Basswood tree, and are inspired in part by contemplation of evolution, subatomic phenomena, and images of galaxies from the Spitzer and Hubble space telescopes. Comet, unlike the others, is comprised of thousands of coriander seeds, smaller and more intricate than Basswood berries. These are still-lifes, but not conventional in their theme or execution. These works are done in silver, copper and goldpoint: the silver will tarnish and turn darker and warmer, the copper will fade and recede into the surface of the paper, and the gold will never oxidize, appearing cooler in comparison with the silver, creating a warm/cool effect and adding a slight shimmer of depth to the field of seeds.
